Executive Director

Established 33 years ago, the Corner Health Center, located in Ypsilanti, Michigan, is Michigan’s first, largest and most comprehensive teen health center.  With an annual operating budget of $1.9 million, the Corner Health Center offers a full range of health care, mental health and supportive services for young people as they transition to adulthood. Corner Health Center’s staff of 23—including physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, nutritionists and health educators—are well versed in the unique issues that young people experience.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director has full accountability for the operations and mission of the organization. The ideal candidate will be a focused, proven health care executive. With leadership responsibility for an exceptional team of clinical and administrative professionals, the Executive Director will successfully lead the efficient operations of the organization. The Executive Director will collaborate with partners and community health agencies to leverage the mission and adapt proactively to changes in health care reform/reimbursement standards. Responsibilities will also include researching, identifying and applying for relevant grants.

Requirements of the role include:

Education and Experience

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience at a senior level in a non-profit setting with a proven track record in building relationships with community partners and stakeholders
  • Experience working in a health care setting with proven experience in responding to shifting funder and regulatory requirements
  • Experience working with a volunteer board

  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort with philanthropic community and major donors
  • Solid, persuasive verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to deliver inspiring and succinct presentations and conduct productive meetings
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as, a proven record of working collaboratively and diplomatically with others
  • Demonstrated ability to build a diverse team and effectively manage, motivate, and mentor staff
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically
  • Strong business acumen; decision making skills; ability to set priorities; process and project management skills
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Health care Administration, Social Work or a related field
  • A passion for working with youth and pediatric health issues
