What is The Corner Health Center?
The Corner is a health center for young men and women, ages 12-21, and their children. The Corner's professional, caring staff provide medical care, health education, and support services.

Which services are confidential (private)?
Some health services are, by law, confidential:
- pregnancy tests and pregnancy care
- mental health counseling and treatment
- birth control
- HIV testing and counseling
- STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) testing, counseling, and treatment
- participating in the WIC program
Young people may choose not to use their parent's insurance. If this is the case, they can pay based on our sliding fee scale.
What if someone doesn't want to come alone?
They may bring someone with them.
When must a young person get their parent's permission?
Except for the services listed above, parent(s) must give permission for general medical care, such as treatment for sickness and immunizations if the young person is under the age of 18.
Note: Even though some services are confidential, we encourage teens to talk with their parents about important health concerns and they are welcome to come with their teens to The Corner for appointments.
When should one come to The Corner?
A young person should call for an appointment if they...
- need a check-up
- are sick
- need a physical for school or work
- need birth control
- think you have an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection)
- have skin problems (acne or rashes)
- are pregnant or think you are pregnant
- want to apply for WIC
- need help getting food
- need counseling
- need an exam
They should also call us if their child...
- needs immunizations (shots)
- needs a check-up/physical
- is sick
How does one make an appointment?
To make an appointment, call 484-3600, ext. 200.
If a young person needs to see the doctor right away, they can ask to talk with a nurse. It may not be possible to get an appointment for the same day that one calls. It is best to call in advance.
Young people need to bring their insurance card to every visit!
If it is not possible to keep an appointment please call The Corner as soon as possible (or at least 24 hours in advance) so someone else can have the appointment time.
What if a young person needs a refill for birth control?
They can get birth control Monday - Friday from 1 pm - 4:30 pm. Please call before you come.
It may be best to make an appointment:
- If a young person has forgotten to take more than two birth control pills.
- If they are more than a week off schedule with Depo.

What if a young person doesn't have transportation to their appointment?
If they call The Corner at least 24 hours before their appointment, we'll try to help with transportation. Call 484-3600, ext. 200.
What does a visit to The Corner Health Center cost?
If a young person has insurance, it covers the cost of most medical services. The young person is responsible for co-payments.
The Corner accepts the following insurance plans:
- Medicaid and Medicaid HMOs
- M-Care
- Midwest
- Great Lakes Medicaid
- Blue Cross/Blue Shield
- Washtenaw County Health Care
- ...and others. If an insurance provider is not on this list, please call Lori at 484-3600, ext. 261.
If a young person doesn't have insurance, payment is based on a sliding scale.
How does a young person apply for medical insurance?
The Corner Health Center patients can get help applying for medical insurance. To make an appointment for help or to ask about insurance, please call Lori at 484-3600, ext. 200.
What is WIC?
The Corner Health Center has a WIC program that provides nutrition education and supplemental food for Women, Infants and Children
To get WIC a young person must:
- meet financial criteria and
- be pregnant or breast feeding, or
- have recently had a baby, or
- have an infant from birth to 12 months old, or
- have a child from 1 to 5 years old.
