Mural Unveiled
| Mary Thiefels has used various media for her art and recently focused on public mural art. In the fall of 2007 she started a public mural business, TreeTown Murals (www.treetownmurals.com.The company is committed to promoting the visual development of local communities by fostering initiatives that support public art. She states: “By enhancing our neighborhoods, city centers, and parks with public artwork, we stand out as a community that makes art a part of our daily practices. TTM believes mural art should reflect the community it lives in, in addition to encouraging community involvement and economic development.” |
One the main objectives of The Corner Health Student Painted Mural Project was to provide a capstone learning experience, and an opportunity for five aspiring young artists from local high schools to assist in the creation of a public mural painting. The students selected were Chelsey Elke from Lincoln High School, now graduated, and going on to college to study graphic design and cartoon animation. Jesse Campbell, is a senior at Ypsilanti High School, dedicated to his studies, art, and, choir. He plans to go on to college. Travis Barney, a senior at Lincoln High School, is interested in drawing and painting, and wants to go to art school. Terrance Blakely, an Ypsilanti High School senior and a very talented graphic illustrator, will be going to college to further his interest in the arts. And Devon Gibson, an Ypsilanti High School junior, another very talented illustrator, is interested in going to art school as soon as he graduates.
