Corner Celebrates Historic Supreme Court Rulings

It has been quite a week! At the Corner we celebrate the following historic Supreme Court rulings:

Affordable Care Act: On Thursday the Supreme Court upheld a provision of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) which allows individuals to receive government subsidies through the Health Insurance Marketplace. While this ruling does not directly impact the vast majority of Corner patients who qualify for Medicaid (which is not purchased through the Marketplace), we are grateful that millions of Americans will continue to have access to affordable health insurance. If you know a young person age 12 through 25 who needs help signing up for health insurance, send them our way!

Fair Housing Act: On Thursday the Supreme Court also upheld the Fair Housing Act (FHA) of 1968. The FHA protects people from discrimination when trying to secure housing. We celebrate the continuation of this landmark civil rights legislation.

Marriage Equality: Yesterday the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is guaranteed by the Constitution. We are elated to know that marriage is no longer a privilege but an undeniable, equal right for all. At the Corner we are committed to being a safe space where all youth feel welcomed and supported.
