Corner Health Center Names New Executive Director

The Corner Health Center has announced the hiring of a new Executive Director, Nicole A. Adelman, MPH, who will start on December 1, 2014 following the retirement of Ellen C. Clement, MPH, MSW, who has held the position for almost six years.

The Corner, an independent non-profit health center located in Ypsilanti, provides physical and mental health care, health education and support exclusively for young people ages 12 through 21, and their children. Although the Corner cares for all young women and men regardless of their financial circumstances, most Corner patients live in extremely low-income households.

Adelman comes to the Corner having served as Executive Director for the Interfaith Hospitality Network at Alpha House in Ann Arbor for the past four years. Prior to that, Adelman led education and outreach programs for Planned Parenthood of Mid and South Michigan and directed prevention programs for the HIV/AIDS Resource Center in Ypsilanti. Both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees are from the University of Michigan.

In accepting this position, Adelman returns to the Corner Health Center, where she began her career as a health educator in the 1990s. “I am very excited for the opportunity to rejoin this dynamic team,” says Adelman. “The Corner’s mission, programs and services for young people play a vital role in the health of our community.”

At the Corner, Adelman will oversee a staff of 25 full- and part-time health care professionals who serve more than 1,400 youth annually. In addition to providing primary health care services, the Corner offers a variety of support services and positive youth development programs.

Gloria Jackson, president of the Corner’s Board, says, “We feel very fortunate to have Nicole take over the leadership of the Corner.  Her previous professional experience makes her an excellent choice for us. We were most impressed with her passion for helping the underserved in our community and we feel that she embraces and exemplifies the Corner’s mission.”

Outgoing executive director Clement adds, “I am delighted to be succeeded by an individual as talented as Nicole. She is deeply committed to the health and well being of young people and has worked with many of our partners in the community. The Corner will not miss a beat in this transition.”
